Rwanda : Hoops team boosted with new arrivals
The national men’s basketball team has been boosted with the arrival of two new players, a few days before they take part in the Fiba Africa Zone o basketball championship scheduled to start on January 21 in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.
The two players include Gedega Bunene Kajeguhakwa who recently signed for Cercle Sportif de Kigali and Thierry Sukusuku who features for French third division club Lagnieu.
It is reported that Sukusuku, 24, who stands at 1,94’, was born in Kigali to a Congolese father and a Rwandan mother.
Head coach Moise Mutokambali says, “The players are an addition to the squad which has been training since late December last year. We are going to try them but they need to work hard since no one is assured of a starting place in the national team,”
“They are good and i hope they will add strength to the team as we seek to win the regional championship,” added Mutokambali.
USA based basketball Dan Rugamba who plays for Seattle Community College is the only professional based players who has joined the training camp.
Key players missing in the team include Robert Thompson and Matthew Miller, who are currently without teams.
Rwanda’s men and women teams won the Zone V championships in 2011.
