The reigning champions Espoir have set a target of winning the Playoffs which are on today and tomorrow at Kimisagara Youth Centre.
Espoir coach Jean Bahufite, who led his team to an unbeaten streak this season in the national league, says the team has been undergoing intensive training so as to perform well in the playoffs. They start their bid against Kigali Basketball.
The former Espoir player has urged his players to replicate the same superb form that has seen the team win all sixteen league games in the national league when they take part in the Playoffs.
“We did well in the league and I am seeing signs of performing better even in the Playoffs. The team has a strong character and mentality of winning,” Bahufite said on Friday.
The league season ended on last Sunday with champions Espoir extending their unbeaten run to 16 games all season and will go into the playoffs as firm favourites against Kigali Basketball Club.
Two former winners APR and Circle Sportif de Kigali face off in the other semi-final and the winner will play either Espoir or KBC in the best of five final.
Espoir become the first team to win the regular season league title with an unbeaten record; they finished with 32 points, while APR came second with 29 points. CSK were third with 27 and KBC fourth with 23 points.
