THE Rwanda Basketball Federation, Ferwaba believes the national U-18 Boys’ team will have no excuse for not winning the Zone 5 Afro-basket tournament due in Kampala from May 10 to 15.
The Ferwaba Secretary General Richard Mutabazi said recently, “We don’t see any reason why the boys’ team won’t win the title. They have had ample preparations and considering the talent in the team, we are optimistic Rwanda will lift the title,”
He further added, “Our girls’ team is a more inexperienced and we want to at least improve on the fourth place finish in the previous tournament,”
The team is aiming at qualifying for the third time in such events and this year the aim is to become the champions and qualify for the continental games.
The Kampala tournament is meant to act as a qualifier for the Africa Nations Championships for U-18 men’s Afro-basket games in Madagascar and U-18 women events in Mali this year.
Meanwhile, the girl’s team will be looking for the 1st qualification of the Afro-basket U-18 women games.
Rwanda will battle for honours alongside Tanzania, Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Egypt and Burundi.
