Los Angeles lakers Point Guard Steve Blake is in Rwanda for a nine-day state visit were he will have the opportunity of holding training clinics with local basketball players and coaches.

According to Rwanda basketball federation (Ferwaba), blake is in the country to look at some of the projects that he partners with New Life Ministries, an NGO that looks after orphans and also provides education to impoverished children, help hundreds of women and street children receive vocational training.

Blake will also play in two friendly matches against league champions KBC and a non-league Basketball club-Pebbles Basketball club.

Rwanda Basketball Federation Secretary General Richard Mutabazi said “He (Blake) will impart important skills to local players and coach and also inspire them.”

Africa New Life ministries currently provides nearly 1/2 million meals to those in need, manages two schools, three churches and six orphanage homes in Rwanda.

 

 

Rwanda’s U-18 team is leaving no stone unturned to enable them stage a successful Zone Five U-18 qualifiers from July 17-22 in Kigali.

 

The national team is leaving for Burundi’s town Bujumbura to fine tune and take part in a regional tournament dubbed as Great Lakes regional basketball tournament which is also set to attract teams from Burundi and DRC.

 

The Rwanda basketball federation president Desire Mugwiza said on Friday that Rwanda will use the event to access the level of the players before head coach Nenad Amanovic desires his final team for the zonal qualifiers.

 

“We want to test our players in this tournament because we believe there is great opposition and challenge that can help them get used ahead of the zonal qualifiers,”

 

In a related development, the local basketball federation has been boasted with a Rwf. 120million package to organise the zonal qualifiers competition.

 

The week-long competition will attract six teams which include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan and Ethiopia.

 

The men’s team will be bolstered by foreign based players who jet in next month and they include: Adronis Rwabigwi, Ngenzi Eric, Manzi Danny, Karenzi Ronald, Twagirayezu Patrice, Ishimwe Norbert, Rutare Jonathan, and Shyaka Scifon.

Après la démission du président de la fédération rwandaise de basketball (FERWABA), Kalisa Eric Salongo, la fédération n’a pas encore élu de président.

 

Rappelons que Kalisa Eric renonça à son poste fin novembre de son propre gré invoquant des raisons personnelles. Il démissionna juste après que le vice president Pierre Munyengabe et le conseiller  de la fédération,  Shema Maboko Didier, quittèrent eux aussi leurs postes du fait des dissensions et la mauvaise gouvernance dans la FERWABA.

 

Dans sa lettre de démission, Shema évoqua les dissensions dans le comite exécutif de la FERWABA, le manque de respect caractérisant les membres du comite exécutif, la mauvaise gestion des finances de la FERWABA.

 

La FERWABA est dirige par intérim par Kayiranga Albert, qui était jusqu’alors vice président. Le secrétaire général de la FERWABA, Jean Lucien Mugabo, déclare que des nouvelles élections sont prévues en février prochain. Ce sera l’occasion d’élire des nouveaux dirigeants aux postes restés vacants qui sont celui du président, vice président et celui du conseiller.
